Friends,
Thanks for visiting the Web Site of Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and Assist Fire Chief Jim Hollenbeck. I hope you will find my web site informative and helpful.
It is hard to believe that four years have passed so quickly. I have filed for re-election to the city council and would very much appreciate your support. I would like to mention a few things that were my goals and accomplishments.
I developed this site so the citizens of the community and anyone with an interest in Marseilles can become more familiar with my family and me. Being a public servant my entire life I feel it is very important to be accessible to the community and anyone that may visit. I hope you will take this opportunity to learn about me and to ask any questions you may have about myself and the departments I represent. I also am on Face Book and if you would like to make me a friend please send me a request. Additionally the City of Marseilles and Marseilles Fire Protection District is on Face Book so add them to your favorites list.
My life has been dedicated to serving the public. I started my career in public service with the Marseilles Police Department on February 14th 1975. After 10 years with the Marseilles Police Department, attaining the rank of Assistant Chief, my career advanced to the State of Illinois where I was a Special Agent, in the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Division of Arson Investigation.
In 1989 I was promoted to Area Commander of the Arson Division for Northern Illinois and as well as the Arson Detection K-9 Program Coordinator & Supervisor.
I was later assigned to conduct internal affairs investigations, administratively and criminal in nature, and then was assigned to the FBI Terrorist Task Force (JTTF) in Chicago and was sworn in as a Deputy United States Marshal. I was assigned to CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit) 3, the Islamic Squad, and later to CTU 2 The Domestic Terrorism Unit.
As a state investigator I have successfully investigated major cases such as undercover stings and drug investigations, homicide and death investigations, fraud, and conspiracy investigations as well as fugitive apprehension.
I am a 35-year veteran of the Marseilles Fire Protection District and currently serves as an Assistant Chief and Emergency Medical Technician and Arson Investigator.
I also serve as a Private Investigator for Advanced Investigative Service located in Nashville Illinois.
I am the proud parent of 4 children Mike, Aaron, Kenneth, and Ashley. In my off time I love spending time with family, friends, and getting together for cookouts. I am an avid NASCAR and White Sox fan; and also enjoy camping, fishing, motorcycling, boating and bowling.
The City of Marseilles, its future, and the safety of the residents, and visitors are all very important to me. I have dedicated my life to public service and caring for this community.
A prevailing mentality in any organization tends to become "That's the way we've always done it." My vision is a mentality of "How can we perform better?" Complacency is a guarantee that any organization will not reach it's potential. I feel we should continuously raise the bar and review our standards to live up to our potential. Law enforcement & fire service is an honorable and noble profession. We expect all those who represent our agency, both sworn and civilian, to exhibit the highest level of professionalism. My goal will be to always provide the best public safety possible and maintain a partnership with the community we serve and protect.
When first elected I spelled out some goals. I called them goals instead of promises since I would need the support of the council for many of my goals. I didn’t want to be a politician that makes promises and then doesn’t deliver. I am very proud that I received the support of the mayor and my fellow council members in obtaining the following:
1. Rescinding of the Dog Tax.
2. Establishment of a Crime Tip Hot Line with rewards for information leading to an arrest. 1-877-891-6141
3. Progressive growth north towards I-80. Three new businesses have been acquired up there even in these tough economic times. Ottawa Regional Hospital, Dollar General and Marshell Service Station.
4. Marseilles Police Department teaming with Tri-Dent Drug Task Force to combat Drugs. Many arrests have been made.
5. Code Red Emergency Notification. All residents can be called and warned of an impending tornado or other emergency within minutes by our 911 Dispatch Center.
6. City and police departments web sites to keep our citizens informed.
7. I send a monthly news letter to my resident e-mail database keeping everyone informed of council and community activities, police department activity as well as a monthly crime and/or safety tip.
The City of Marseilles, its future, and the safety of the residents, and visitors are all very important passion to me. I have dedicated my life to public service and caring for this community.
Please feel free to contact me if you ever have and questions or concerns. I would appreciate your support in re-election on April 5th 2011.
Sincerely,
Jim Hollenbeck
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety
